Jimmy Williams (6'4", 320 lbs.), who can play on both the offensive and defensive lines and shored up the middle for the Wolves in the past, was assigned to the squad by the arena football 2 league office. Also assigned to the Wolves was wide receiver/defensive back Raquan Pride (6'1", 190 lbs.), who played his collegiate football at the University of Rhode Island.
Head Coach Danton Barto made the moves to add experience, leadership, and talent to a Wolves team that slid to 1-3 so far this season and has lost its last three consecutive games.
"Jimmy Williams is a player who will come in and have an immediate impact on this team," said Barto. "He is a player who knows what it takes to win football games. He will also provide leadership on a young football team. Raquan Pride is a defensive back who came highly recommended to me from an AFL organization. We are excited to see him finally join our organization. The defensive back position has been an area of concern all year long."
On Wednesday, the Wolves announced that fullback/linebacker Dan Crozier will be traded to East Division rival Wilkes-Barre Scranton pending final league approval. Micah Johnson and Roger Brown, who both played wide receiver/defensive back, have been reassigned and defensive lineman Larry Brown was placed on team suspension. Crozier is in his second year in the af2 and the others are all rookies.
Barto intimated that the roster is far from set and more changes are coming soon.
"There should be some familiar faces joining the Wolves later in the week," he said. "We are bringing in players who know how to win at this level. We will right this ship and it must start this week."
The Wolves host the Daytona Beach ThunderBirds (0-5) on their home Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena in a rare Sunday afternoon game this weekend. Kickoff on Sunday May 4th is at 4:00 PM
Proceeds from the event, which include complimentary children's entertainment, benefit the future Pediatrics Emergency Department at Manchester's Elliot Hospital. During the game with Daytona Beach, the players will wear jerseys specially designed by children in the current pediatrics unit and afterward, the Wolves will literally give the shirts off their back when those jerseys are auctioned.
