WOLVES LOSE TO STRONG PIONEER DEFENSE
Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- Wilkes-Barre Scranton quarterback Ryan Vena tied his personal best of 10 touchdowns scored in a single game as the Pioneers defeated the Manchester Wolves 68-50 and increased their lead in the af2 East Division standings.
For the second consecutive week, Manchester quarterback Brian Jones scored seven touchdowns in a losing effort as the Wolves were plagued by a ferocious Pioneers pass rush and dropped to 1-3 on the season. Jones completed 24 of 41 passes for 294 yards and five passing touchdowns, but he also turned the ball over twice on interceptions. Jones, who had Pioneers defenders in his face all night and was sacked six times, added another two scores on the ground.
Emery Sammons, the Wolves leading receiver through four games played thus far this season, led all Wolves receivers with 12 catches for 156 yards and three touchdowns.
The Wolves return home next week to host the Daytona Beach Thunderbirds (0-5) on Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena in a Sunday afternoon match-up at 4 pm.
